Samsung confirms its support for Busans candidacy as host city

On the eve of voting on the city that will host Expo 2030, Samsung Electronics Latin America reiterated its support for the candidacy of Busan, South Korea, at an event that brought together company executives in the Dominican Republic.

“As a global technology leader, Samsung supports Busan’s bid for Expo 2030. Korea’s history of transformation through education is a source of inspiration for the company. In this pillar we work on initiatives to support future generations. In addition, we are confident that Busan has everything necessary to host the Expo: the city has excellent transportation, tourism and industrial infrastructure based on sustainable development. Busan is ready and its candidacy is an opportunity to share South Korea’s successful journey with other countries and cultures,” said HS Jo, President of Samsung Latin America.

Samsung supports education through its global corporate citizenship programs. In Latin America, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) leverages STEM methodology to encourage young minds across the region to develop projects to solve problems in their communities. In 2023, the region’s ten-year program expired and more than 311,000 students and 41,000 teachers from 22,000 public schools benefited. Solve for Tomorrow is currently present in 20 countries in Latin America.

On the other hand, Samsung Innovation Campus offers courses on information and communication technologies (ICT) such as programming, coding and AI to help young people find better career opportunities.

“Samsung believes that by empowering future generations through education, we can have a real impact on society. This is demonstrated by our global corporate citizenship vision “Together for Tomorrow!” Empowering people.’ These young people will be the agents of change and can contribute to a better future for all,” said Helvio Kanamaru, Director of ESG and Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Latin America.

In addition to education, Samsung and South Korea are pioneers in technological research and development. In this scenario, Samsung’s support for Busan demonstrates the power of innovation and education as a driver of progress, not only for South Korea but for the entire world. By betting on Expo 2030 in Busan, Samsung reaffirms its role as an agent of global change and invites the international community to meet in a place where technology and knowledge are the key to a more sustainable future.

The host city of Expo 2030 will be selected by the General Assembly of the International Exhibition Union (BIE), which brings together member countries, on November 28 in Paris, France.
