Government representatives come to Angola for the Luanda Biennale

Angolan Foreign Minister Téte Antonio went to the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport to receive the dignitaries who, together with other personalities, will attend the event that begins tomorrow and lasts until November 24th.

At the Luanda Biennale, as the event is called, the presence of the President of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, is expected; from Sao Tome and Principe, Carlos Vila Nova, and from Ethiopia, Sahle-WorkZewed.

Other prominent figures set to speak at the meeting include former leader of Nigeria, Olusengu Obasanjo; from Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, and from Malawi, Joyce Banda.

Angolan leader João Lourenço leads the list of speakers during the forum, which will also feature African Union (AU) chiefs Azali Assoumani; and by the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and that organization’s advisor, Kgalema Motlanthe.

This Tuesday, the speaker of the event, Neto Júnior, explained that all the technical, human and logistical conditions have been created to carry out the biennale, dedicated to the prevention of violence and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, based on education, cultural exchange and dialogue between the generations.

During the event, around 850 people from 63 countries are expected to participate, including officials from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the AU, which are coordinating the forum together with Angola.

This is where personalities from the continent and the diaspora meet, as well as representatives of civil society and young Africans.

The event’s agenda includes six panels, of which the panel will be high-level and will be dedicated to young people as actors in promoting a culture of peace and social change on the continent.

Other topics to be addressed will include technology and education as tools to achieve gender equality; the role of women in peace, security and development processes; and the process of transforming education systems: innovative practices and financing in the African context.

Also the challenges and opportunities of integrating the African continent and the prospects for economic growth; in addition to climate change and the associated ethical challenges, also its effects, adaptation and vulnerability to this phenomenon.

The Luanda Biennale will also include several parallel events, from artistic presentations and cultural activities to meetings of religious institutions.
