Tram project: At least $10.8 million to relocate Rochebelle High School athletic fields

The relocation of Rochebelle Secondary School’s sports fields will cost at least $10.8 million, a project that was linked to the tram but about which some questions remain as the government has halted the project.

Work should begin in the coming months. Their goal is to relocate two soccer fields that were destroyed by the tram to land owned by the Center de Services Scolaire des Découvreurs (CSSDD).

The center had launched a tender. The envelopes were opened on Monday. No fewer than five bidders submitted proposals. The lowest is that of Syntra, which stands at $10.8 million. The maximum value is $14.6 million.

Various questions

However, the continuation of the procedures remains uncertain since the Legault government put the tram on hold on November 8 in order to commission the Caisse de dépôt et Placement Infra to carry out a study on mobility throughout the region.

Will we still carry out this work? At the CSSDD, the spokesman for Le Journal refers to the electronic tendering service and is satisfied that “a decision will be made later”.

We wait in Quebec City. “The renovation of the Rochebelle campus enabled improved infrastructure for students. “The city and the CSS are still waiting for a decision from the ministry to know whether the work can continue despite the pause imposed by the government,” said Quebec mayor’s press secretary Thomas Gaudreault.

No response could be obtained from Transportation Minister Geneviève Guilbault’s office Tuesday.

The municipality has agreed to pay an advance of $17 million on the amount offered for the acquisition or expropriation of the land on which the current property is located. Part of the forest has already been cut down to make room for the new sports sector.

Renovation

In addition, the CSSDD used this opportunity to plan a complete redesign of the entire campus. We wanted to completely rearrange car traffic, add trees, sidewalks and a bike path, a student living area, as well as basketball and volleyball courts and a new synthetic track and field track.
