Saguenay police officers may be close to solving several copper and bicycle thefts as they have nabbed a man wanted for months who had several rolls of copper and a large quantity of stolen bicycles in his home.
On Tuesday morning, Saguenay police arrived at a residence on Chemin de la Réserve in Chicoutimi to collect a file on possible threats. When they arrived on scene, they discovered that the person in question was Jean-Pierre Tremblay, 41, and that there were approximately ten warrants for his arrest.
“The procedure is changing. We want to arrest this person who suddenly tries to escape from the police. “The person was caught behind the houses not far from his residence and arrested,” said Saguenay police spokesman Luc Tardif.
However, during the operation, police discovered the presence of several copper wires as well as numerous bicycles and tools in the 41-year-old man’s house.
“[Ce sont] Things that may have been reported stolen in the last few weeks. That’s why we contact the investigating authorities, who apply for a search warrant. We conducted this search in the middle of the afternoon,” Mr. Tardif continued.
Items were confiscated, but it is currently impossible to say exactly what they were.
“In addition to all this, during the operation a certain amount of narcotics was found in a vehicle on site. There is a second person who is in the apartment and may be connected to these drugs. A woman born in the 90s who was arrested by the police,” he added.
The thirty-year-old was released pending trial, while Jean-Pierre Tremblay went to prison.
Dozens of mandates
In the last three years, Jean-Pierre Tremblay pleaded guilty to dangerous driving while impaired, theft of stolen property, theft of copper wire and possession of narcotics. There were around ten arrest warrants against him. Six of them were allegedly launched by Saguenay police.
“He was waiting for an agreement in the case of punishment. Unfortunately, he didn’t show up last September, so there was a warrant for his arrest. [lancé]. He had multiple files, so he had arrest warrants in all of the files. Judge Boudreault must pronounce the sentence in the other cases,” said defense attorney Me Luc Tourangeau.
Jean-Pierre Tremblay remains behind bars until his return to court on December 4th. Additional charges could be brought against him.
