A supermarket worker in Sussex, UK, was terrified when he discovered what looked like a 21-legged spider in one of the romaine lettuces and shared the whole thing on social media for answers.
“So, I work at a grocery store and a co-worker sent me this…what is this? Is it even an insect? Or are we hallucinating – we’ve seen some disgusting things but this is for the best,” an employee at an Eastbourne grocery store posted on Sunday, according to The Mirror on Tuesday.
The frightening image of what appears to be a 21-legged insect or spider, shared in a humorous group for insect lovers, received more than 13,000 comments in two days as many internet users tried to identify the thing on the lettuce.
While some of them were quick to express their discomfort with the image, some suggested that the disturbing creature could simply be the base or blackened “flower-bearing part” of a dandelion or other plant stuck to the lettuce.

In particular, some have pointed out that what appears to be fuzzy dandelion seeds near the blackened part.
However, many laughed as they compared the thing to various nightmarish creatures, including the one from the series Stranger Things.
“We are doomed,” one of them wrote, according to The Mirror, while another said he was torn between “a spider with too many legs” and “a centipede with too few bodies.”
But for the author of the publication, the dandelion explanation seemed to be enough, so that she could now sleep soundly.
“My team and I can relax and work again [en paix]“, she concluded.
