A video of a girl dancing on the street with her hair down has gone viral in Iran. Pictures, shared by Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad on her profile They show the young woman loosening her long hair and starting to dance, first alone, then hugging a boy, while the music of some street artists plays in the background.

“Dancing and showing hair can land women in prison”

Revolutionary images in a country where the law prohibits women from showing their hair or dancing in public, depicting the daily struggle of girls in the Islamic Republic for their freedom from veils and oppression. “In Iran, singing, dancing and even showing your hair can land women in prison: simple acts are considered criminal,” the journalist writes and publishes the video. “But undeterred by the threat of arrest, young Iranian women are breaking these misogynistic laws and challenging the authoritarian regime, as seen in this powerful video.”
