The odds of winning Powerball and Mega Millions are NOT in your favor

The odds of hitting the Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 292 million. These things are more likely to land you than making a lot of money.

A Canadian won the US$50 million ($36.5 million) Lotto Max jackpot and returned to work because he said the company would suffer without him.

Pierre Richer won $50 million ($36.5 million) in the Lotto Max draw on October 6. He bought the winning ticket for $10 at the Super C supermarket in Montreal while shopping with his daughter for Thanksgiving. The retailer who sold the winning ticket will receive a $5,000 commission.

Richer said his wife and daughter found out he had won $50 million the day after the drawing. His daughter screamed so loudly that the family thought she had seen a spider.

Despite winning a large sum of money, Richer remained unfazed and continued his activities.

“I went into the room and they told me [about the win]” the winner told City News Everywhere at a press conference. “I said ‘OK’ and then walked out.”

Richer, a Montreal resident, didn’t let his recent $50 million lottery win change his daily routine. Although he was already in his 60s, he showed up for work at the catering company at 4:30 a.m. on the Monday after his victory as if nothing had happened over the weekend.

“I can’t leave her alone in the dark,” Richer told City News Everywhere. “The shipping department cannot be done without me. I feel the same way. Nothing has changed.”

Although he seems indifferent to the sudden influx of wealth, he doesn’t let it sit idle in his bank account. Richer said he will maintain his early morning work routine, but he and his family have devised a plan for the money.

“Our plan is to buy a house, a new car, and that’s basically it, and then they go on vacation,” Richer said. “I’m not the kind of person who goes on vacation, so I’ll let her go on vacation.”
