Jamie Foxx has been accused of sexual assault. The actor is named as a defendant in a new civil lawsuit in New York tonight. The complaint, filed by an unnamed woman, alleges Foxx attacked her at a rooftop bar in the city in 2015.

(In case you’re wondering why so many high-profile sexual assault lawsuits have been filed in New York in the last two weeks – including the already decided case against Sean Combs, as well as those against Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses and Beats Electronics’ Jimmy Iovine today Evening — likely due to the impending expiration of the state’s Adult Survivors Act. The law, which went into effect in May 2022, sets a one-year deadline during which alleged victims of sexual assault can file civil lawsuits over allegations that the law does not provide for. The statute of limitations is expired; the deadline ends on November 24th of this year.)
According to Variety, the lawsuit accuses Foxx of meeting the woman at a bar where her group asked him for a photo. Foxx allegedly began complimenting the woman, then grabbed her arm and took her to a “secluded area” where he began groping her before putting his hands down her pants and sexually assaulting her. The lawsuit alleges a security guard observed the groping but did nothing; Foxx stopped after one of the woman’s friends came to check on her.
The lawsuit seeks compensation for pain, suffering, emotional distress, fear and humiliation. Foxx’s team has not yet commented on the lawsuit. News of the lawsuit comes after a year in which Foxx was at the center of rumors surrounding his health; He was hospitalized in April for unknown reasons and has since disappeared from the public eye, although he has said at some appearances that he has been “to hell and back.”
