One of the oldest companies in Saint-Georges, Jules Maheux Chaussures, has just closed its doors due to bankruptcy.

Such a notice was posted last week by trustee Roy, Métivier, Roberge on the door of the store owned by the company name Jules Maheux Inc. The store was located on Dionne Boulevard in the West Sector.

Towards the end of the 1960s, Jules Maheux and his wife Lucette Caron bought this shop, then called Simard Chaussures.

“Father was working as an advertising salesman for Éclaireur-Progrès at the time and Madame Dowager Simard had asked my father if he knew of a potential buyer who was traveling through the streets of Beauce. And so, when Dad returned from Guadeloupe that day, like a Saint Paul on the way to Damascus, he said to himself: “Why not me?” What followed, with the crucial support and complicity of his wife Lucette Caron, was a change in our lifestyle Family,” said eldest son, Jean Maheux, in a message to EnBeauce.com.

The couple’s adventure ended just over 25 years ago with the sale of the store to André Poulin, who kept the company’s name until the end.

As fate would have it, the shop went out of business the same year Jules Maheux died in January last year at the age of 92.
