Kick-off on the 16the The German Christmas market in Quebec took place on Thursday under snowflakes at Place D’Youville.
With an ice rink full of families, the Capitol decked out in fine clothing, and festive music, visitors were quickly immersed in the magic of Christmas for the first time.
The lights slowly faded as President Britta Kröger greeted the crowd at one of the five venues.
“It is a vehicle of traditions, joy, peace, union, gluttony and happiness to share with yourself and others.” “Their presence is a reward for those who like elves all year round work to build what you see,” she said, explaining her love for the “sublime” Quebec city.

The mayor of Quebec took advantage of the Christmas magic to laugh and highlight the presence of the Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale, Jonatan Julien.
“It’s crazy what it can do! It’s great and we’re super proud. I invite the people of Quebec,” said Bruno Marchand.
A tradition
The mayor particularly highlighted the March of the Giant Puppets presented on Saturday evening on Rue Saint-Jean and on the Côte de la Fabrique. Due to strong winds, outpatient operations could not take place last year and health restrictions also ruled out the event in 2021.
“We are still a baby because the German Christmas markets are over 400 years old. We still have a long way to go, but it has become part of the tradition. People love what is on offer. The whole city is celebrating and it’s a joy,” concluded Britta Kröger.
At Place D’Youville, Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, Hôtel-de-Ville Gardens, Rue Sainte-Anne and Place d’Armes, Quebec’s German Christmas market runs until December 23rd .
