Just minutes after the start of the deadline for the planned ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, on Friday (24), Israel activated sirens to warn of possible rocket attacks. The temporary ceasefire was scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. local time 2 a.m. Brazilian time.

Under an agreement between Israel and Hamas, the ceasefire will allow hostages held by terrorists to leave and bring humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The break in the conflict is expected to last four days.

But minutes into the deadline, Israel activated warning sirens of possible attacks on two communities near the Gaza Strip.

In addition, live images from the Portal agency showed smoke in the border region between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Shortly before the ceasefire began, explosions were reported in Gaza.

According to Portal, no explosions were reported after the ceasefire began.

According to the agreement, the first hostages held by Hamas are to be released this Friday afternoon.

More than 50 hostages are expected to be released in the coming days. Israel has promised to extend the ceasefire by one day for every 10 more hostages released by the terror group.

The agreement also includes the release of 150 Palestinians held as prisoners by Israel. In addition, Gaza must be supplied with water, food, medical aid and fuel by trucks during the lull in the conflict.

Minutes before the deadline for a ceasefire in the conflict, the Israel Defense Forces released a video from spokesman Avichay Adraee saying the war was not over.

“The humanitarian pause is temporary. The north of the Gaza Strip is a dangerous war zone,” he said.

Adraee also advised civilians in Gaza to remain in the southern region of the Palestinian territory. The military said travel to the northern region was banned.
