The women’s symbol against violence – a hand with the thumb placed under the fingers and the palm facing the person – has become known in recent years as a silent cry for help to women in need. Signals that the person is in danger or in an unsafe situation. All security service employees were trained and made aware of the symbol of women against violence. The aim is to offer affected women an additional point of contact in the city and actively contribute to the prevention of violence. With this initiative, the security service aims not only to draw attention to the important topic, but also to ensure that teams know how to react appropriately in such situations. The focus is on remaining calm, protecting the affected person and taking the necessary steps to provide assistance.

“The 16 days against violence against women begin on November 25th, the international day in memory of all women and girls who have been victims of violence. They end with International Human Rights Day on December 10th. Any type of violence must be condemned. As a security officer, I do everything in my power to counter this situation. The security service team is in the city every day. Law enforcement officers are well trained, recognize signs of help and know what measures need to be taken to provide the best help possible”, explains security officer, councilor Dr. Miguel Raml.

“Our goal is for every woman in Linz to feel safe and know that they have an ally in our employees,” report Mario Gubesch, managing director of the Linz public order service, and co-managing director Helmut Haas.
