The Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ), which represents 80,000 nurses, practical nurses and other medical professionals, is pulling out on Thursday and Friday, affecting the vast majority of health facilities.

The Autonomous Education Federation (FAE), which includes 66,000 primary and secondary teachers, began an indefinite strike on Thursday.

The three-day strike by the 420,000 members of the common front made up of CSQ, FTQ, CSN and APTS ended on Thursday evening. These union members will therefore be back in action on Friday.

Negotiations to renew collective agreements with the Quebec government are ongoing. On Thursday, Prime Minister François Legault said he was ready to improve his offer if the unions concerned showed more “flexibility” in organizing work.

The four member organizations of the Common Front must meet on Sunday to take stock of the negotiations and decide whether to continue their strike mandate. The Joint Front has an indefinite strike mandate, but has previously carried out one-day and then three-day strikes.
