Judge Francisco de Jorge, trainer of the National Court, sent one of the men arrested for the attack this Friday on Alejo Vidal-Quadras, former president of the PP of Catalonia and founder of Vox, to a makeshift prison where he was shot in the face on November 9th in a central neighborhood of Madrid. In line with the prosecutor’s office, the judge ordered the detention of Naraya G., who was arrested by the National Police on Tuesday after a two-week investigation. The ministry attributed the crime of “attempted terrorist murder” to him, as did his partner, the British Sasha B., and the third suspect, Adrián RB; who were released after their statement.
After hearing the three men, who have been incommunicado since their arrest and assigned public defenders, this Friday, the State Department called for the two men to be held in prison without bail before they face the possibility of escape. However, the judge only approved the initiative for one of them: Naraya G., imprisoned in Lanjarón (Granada). The second detainee was released despite the judge imposing precautionary measures: confiscating his passport, banning him from leaving Spain and requiring him to appear in court every 15 days. De Jorge ordered the woman to take the same precautions that prosecutors had requested in her case. The summary remains secret.
After two weeks of hospitalization, the hospital released Gregorio Marañón Vidal-Quadras this Thursday. Shortly before leaving the health center, the former politician distributed a letter accusing Iran of “planning and carrying out” his attack. In this letter, in which the former leader of the PP and Vox emphasizes the “evil will” of the Ayatollah regime, it is highlighted that the attack was aimed at assassinating him. “The Iranian regime does not want to find a balance of power between us, it wants to wipe us from the face of the earth. As long as we do not understand and accept this terrible truth, we will fail and be defeated,” said the text, which was read out on Wednesday at an event in the European Parliament organized by the “Friends of Free Iran” group in the presence of Maryam Rajavi, president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (CNRI, an organization prosecuted by Tehran that was on the US list of terrorist organizations until 2012).

The attack against Vidal-Quadras took place on November 9th on Núñez de Balboa street in the center of Madrid. The former politician was shot in the face by a gunman who fled on a motorcycle. It was a single shot with a nine-millimeter weapon in Parabellum caliber. The National Police immediately launched an investigation with many hypotheses on the table, which two days later was investigated as terrorism and narrowed down over the following two weeks. As a result of the investigation, officers arrested this Tuesday the first three suspects, who were presented to Judge De Jorge this Friday.
Police arrested a couple in Lanjarón (Granada) – he of Spanish nationality and she of British nationality – and a man in Fuengirola (Málaga), also Spanish, over their alleged relationship with the gunman, a suspected Tunisian hitman still in the compound is running. . The agents highlight the role of the first of them, Naraya G., born in Cáñar (Granada, 350 inhabitants), whom they describe as the person who hired and paid the shooter on behalf of other unidentified people. The researchers keep the Iranian trail alive as a hypothesis because Vidal-Quadras maintained ties to the dissidents of the Ayatollah regime since his time as a European Parliamentarian for the PP (1999-2014).

The imprisoned woman goes by the name Sasha B. and is the partner of Naraya G. According to police sources, investigators are not entirely clear about the extent to which she was involved in the crime and whether she knew about what was going on with her romantic partner . They both lived together in a house in their mother’s name. And according to the mayor of Lanjarón, the arrested woman moved to the municipality in 2010 and was fully integrated into the population.
The third person arrested is Adrián RB, an unemployed man from Malaga. According to the investigative sources, Naraya G. is said to have contacted him to buy a motorcycle and transfer it to his name, with which the hitman later traveled to Madrid and fled after the attack. In return, he gave him 500 euros for the management, the state police suspect.
The fourth suspect put on the table is Mehrez A., the suspected escaped hitman: a 37-year-old Tunisian citizen residing in France, whom police say is the suspected shooter. Before the attack, the French authorities had already issued an arrest warrant for him for murder. Sources said he carried out the attack with a motorcycle helmet over his head, but in recent days he was caught on surveillance cameras with his face uncovered while allegedly exploring the area near the former politician’s home.
