The Colombian government allocates budget for the education sector

This Friday, the Colombian government allocated a budget of 70 billion pesos to the education sector, equivalent to 17.3 billion dollars, an amount higher than the 57 billion in 2023.

The announcement was made during the accounting of this portfolio in Buenaventura for the period August 7, 2022 to October 31, 2023.

Education Secretary Aurora Vergara stated, “The education sector is strengthening the budget, be it 2024, with a budget of over 70 billion pesos to ensure that all the needs of the sector can be met.”

He also added that it is the largest budget offered in recent years and will make it possible to achieve welfare goals and respect agreements with teachers, students and educational institutions.

In this sense, the official highlighted the “University in your area” program, pointing out that more than 500,000 university places will be made available in the first four months of next year.

The initiative will make it possible to create relevant academic programs in each region, regardless of its socio-economic situation, in addition to covering areas such as educational spaces and programs for the immediate transition to higher education.

Likewise, it will be possible to transform the education quality assurance system and the overall education system while ensuring the nutrition of 600,000 boys and girls in 109 municipalities in 17 departments, 365 days a year, regardless of the school year.
