Renowned Spanish chef Daniel Redondo has died aged 46. He was one of the founders of the Mani restaurant in São Paulo, alongside chef Helena Rizzo, where he was a partner until 2017.

The death was confirmed this Saturday (25) by Helena, previously married to Daniel.

“I woke up today to the sad news of the departure of Dani, my old life and work partner. We hadn’t spoken in many years…since our breakup. We have been through a lot together… incredible and difficult moments…” Building and learning… Owner of a huge and generous heart, without him Mani would not be what he is today! Wherever you are, all my love and gratitude for the good things we have experienced together💔,” he wrote on social media.

According to a statement from Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca, Redondo was the victim of a traffic accident, but the location was not disclosed.

Restaurante Mani also published a letter of condolence this Saturday.

“This morning we received the sad news that Chef Daniel Redondo has left. Talented, dedicated, technical, rigorous and even a little grumpy at times, but charming, sweet and popular. Without him there would be no Mani. At least not the way the restaurant was conceived almost 18 years ago. He shared management of the kitchen with Helena, his former partner, for 11 years. Together they wrote an important chapter in the history of Brazilian gastronomy until he left the company in 2017. Just rest in peace, Dani, my dear. Our condolences and deepest condolences to the family.”
