The discussion comes amid the aggression against the Gaza Strip launched by the Israeli army on October 7, which has so far killed around 15,000 people.
The meeting was convened by the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) under the title “International Forum on the Propaganda of Hatred and Violence in the Media, Particularly on the Palestinian Issue.”
In this context, organizers warned that “media bias towards this issue has distorted the facts and fueled feelings of hatred.”
They also called for ideas to combat bias and misinformation, with a focus on raising awareness, dissemination and increasing credibility.
Ahmed Al-Assaf, General Supervisor of the Official Media in the State of Palestine and Chairman of the Board of the Palestinian News and Information Agency, will take part in the debate.
The debates will take place in panels entitled “Bias and disinformation in the international media (The Palestinian issue as a case study)” and “The role of religious institutions and leaders in the fight against hate speech and violence on media platforms”.
Others focus on the “ethical responsibility of international media” and “international religious and media alliances to combat hate speech and extremism.”
Agency and media directors from Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Turkmenistan, Chad, Iraq, Jordan, Russia, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Djibouti, Croatia, Oman, Ivory Coast, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Algeria, Mauritania, Kuwait and Somalia will take part . Arab Emirates and Cameroon.
The list includes high-ranking representatives of the Muslim World League, the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (Vatican), the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the League of Islamic Universities and the Christian-Muslim Dialogue, among others.
