Tiffany Haddish was arrested early Friday in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said. This is the second time in less than two years that the actress and comedian has been arrested on such charges.

Beverly Hills police said they found Haddish, 43, while responding to a call about a motorist stopped on the road about 5:45 a.m. Officers found Haddish appearing to be slumped over the steering wheel of the car, whose engine was still running.

Video obtained by entertainment news outlet TMZ shows two officers handcuffing Haddish and leading her into the back of a patrol car. Haddish received a drunk driving charge and was released later Friday.

The Emmy and Grammy winner’s arrest came after she performed at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Haddish’s appearance on the show was part of a free Thanksgiving feast the comedy club hosts annually for the community.

Neither Haddish nor representatives immediately addressed Friday’s arrest. It contained striking similarities to a document from January 2022.

On that occasion, police in Peachtree City, Georgia, encountered Haddish while investigating a 2:30 a.m. call about a driver who had fallen asleep on a highway. Officers said they stopped Haddish as she drove a car into the yard of a home.

Authorities at the time suspected Haddish had smoked marijuana before getting behind the wheel and was charged with driving under the influence. Haddish posted $1,666 bail to be released from custody while she awaited resolution of the case, and her trial in the matter is tentatively scheduled for January.

In between the two arrests was another serious legal matter, which Haddish denied and was ultimately dismissed – but not before the entertainer said it was jeopardizing her career.

In a widely reported lawsuit in September 2022, a woman claimed that she and her brother were sexually abused as children by Haddish and fellow comedian Aries Spears.

Both accused entertainers denied the claims in separate statements and the plaintiff dropped the case within weeks. Haddish later publicly said she had “lost everything” following the lawsuit, although she has since starred in several prominent productions, including Disney’s horror comedy The Haunted Mansion.

Haddish won an Emmy for her performance on Saturday Night Live in 2018. In 2021, her Black Mitzvah special earned her a Grammy.

Her memoir The Last Black Unicorn received a Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word Album in 2017 and was a New York Times bestseller.

“Girls Trip,” “Night School,” “Like a Boss” and “The Kitchen” are Haddish’s other prominent film appearances.
