What are WarGames?

Created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987, WarGames is one of the most unique matches in WWE as it involves two rings next to each other. Since its introduction to NXT in 2017, it has become a staple of the company.

The two rings are surrounded by a roofless steel cage and are contested by two or three teams. The game begins with one participant from each team starting in the ring. After five minutes, another member of a team enters the game to gain a brief 2-on-1 advantage. Three minutes later, a participant from the disadvantaged team steps up to even the odds. The teams then alternate participants until all participants are in the game.

A team wins by pinning or submitting a member of the other team.

The return of Randy Orton

After 18 months, the “Viper” finally returns.

Randy Orton will make his WWE return at Survivor Series as part of the team taking on The Judgment Day in the men’s WarGames match. Cody Rhodes announced Orton’s return during Monday Night Raw this week.

The decorated star was sidelined in May 2022 after suffering a real back injury in the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match against The Usos on “Smackdown.” The injury caused Orton to miss SummerSlam 2022 and on Saturday he will make his first appearance for WWE this year.

Günther on why his reign “was necessary”

As the WWE Universe learned with Gunther, the mat is sacred and that mantra is what “The Ring General” wants to demonstrate at Survivor Series: WarGames.

The longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history will put his title on the line Saturday in Chicago against someone who is very familiar with it: eight-time champion The Miz.

On screen, Gunther has made a point of showing no respect for The Miz, saying he is just an entertainer and not a wrestler. The Miz’s entertainer aspect is something Gunther sees as a growing problem in WWE, he said, adding that the roster is “full of these people.”

“I think one of the negative side effects over time has been people taking themselves a little too seriously, and that’s not the point. It’s not about the individual person,” he said. “It’s about the sport itself, about the sport itself being healthy. And yet in this case, I may be the only one who really cares. So it’s up to me to defend those values a little bit against someone like The Miz who puts himself first.

“That is why my rule was necessary; to clarify things a little.

Will CM Punk return to WWE?

As WWE hosts another pay-per-view in the Chicago area, fans have been wondering: Will CM Punk return?

The former WWE Champion was a major signing for All Elite Wrestling in 2021, but was released from the company for cause on September 2 after Punk got into an altercation following the All In pay-per-view in London scenes were involved.

Since then, there has been a lot of speculation that Punk would be returning to WWE for the first time since 2014, with fans looking for clues about a possible return. It was also believed that Punk would be the fifth member of Rhodes’ team in the WarGames match before Orton was announced as the final member of the group.

Multiple media outlets have reported that Punk won’t be at Survivor Series or signing with WWE in the near future, but the company has had big surprises in recent years, including Rhodes’ return in 2022, so that can’t be completely ruled out until Survivor Series is over.
