Have you ever wondered where former Apple employees work after leaving the company? Thanks to a new study, Google has been named the next preferred place to work. And not surprisingly, the opposite is also true. This means Google employees are just as likely to end up at Apple! But interestingly, the results show that most people working for the Cupertino company come from companies like Microsoft, Intel and Amazon.
Analysis conducted by Switch on Business shows that these results were obtained after examining all types of employee profiles through the LinkedIn app. This was after selecting technology companies to include in their research.
First, the workforce figures were noted at tech giants such as Nvidia, Amazon, Google, IBM, Netflix, Apple, Salesforce, Uber, Tesla, Meta, Adobe, Microsoft and Oracle. Next, the researchers looked for workers currently employed by each of the companies listed above, as well as workers who worked for the organizations listed. It was quickly possible to calculate the number and percentage of workers currently registered in each company who were working in other large companies. This made it possible to get a complete breakdown of the common connections between the different companies.
As for Apple, the study showed that most workers previously worked at Intel, Google, Nvidia, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Meta, Tesla and Adobe. When it comes to the majority of workers Apple hires, Intel is the leader. That makes sense considering the iPhone maker spent billions in 2019 buying the company’s smartphone business in hopes of developing its own Solo radio chips.
Those who said goodbye to tech giant Apple were almost twice as likely to switch to Google, while Amazon was second on the list in terms of popularity. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, the software giant Microsoft and Tesla, the company owned by Elon Musk, round out the top 5 professional destinations. Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe and Intel follow close behind, while Oracle rounds out the list of the top ten most popular places to work for Apple employees.
Is there an obvious overlap that cannot be overlooked? Absolutely, and that doesn’t surprise us at all! What’s somewhat surprising, however, is that the overall percentage of Apple workers recruited from other tech giants is just 5.7%. If we compare these results to those of Meta, Google and Salesforce, the difference is big. The corresponding percentages are, in order, as follows: 26%, 25% and 20.7%. That’s almost four to five times more than Apple prefers.
So, if you work for a large, stable company, it is obvious that as a job seeker you can only move to another company of similar size and stability to avoid the associated risks and stress that may arise along the way.
