But more than a beer is likely in store for the brave 50-year-old Brazilian rider, as thousands of people responded to Darcy’s call and crowdfunding quickly exceeded the number 300 thousand euros.

Around 29,000 people took part in the fundraising campaign for Caio Benicio, with donations ranging from a few euros to 1,500 euros.
It wasn’t just the Brazilian driver who fought off the attacker, but also an American woman and a 21-year-old Frenchman (other foreigners, that is) who worked together to save the lives of other children.

“I acted on instinct, how could I not do anything? The good and bad of a person are not determined by their nationality. I don’t feel like a hero,” said Caio Benicio, who is now receiving the donation amount GoFundMe.

“I saw the attacker attack the woman and children. He grabbed a little girl and stabbed her. Then I got off the scooter and… I hit him in the head several times, with all my strength and with the only weapon I had, my helmet,” Caio Benicio told the press.
“I am also a parent, I pray every day that the victims recover. And yes, I’m a migrant too, but I helped this woman and the children. I have lived here in Ireland for twenty years and have never felt unsafe. “The hunt for the foreigner seen on Thursday is absurd,” concluded the hero rider.
