Four people were trampled to death in mass panic in India

At least four people were trampled to death in a stampede at a university in southern India yesterday. Dozens of others were injured in the incident which took place on a partially covered outdoor stage on the premises of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in the southwestern state of Kerala, local authorities and media reported. There would be a concert there in the evening.

Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said he was “deeply shocked” by “the sad passing of four students” on X (Twitter). News agency PTI quoted Kerala Health Minister Veena George as saying that a total of 60 people were injured, four of them seriously.

A local police officer said people outside the venue were taking shelter under sudden rain when some of them slipped on the stairs and were trampled to death, according to PTI.
