AEW’s Continental Classic tournament sees its first surprise: Cageside Seats

The first week of AEW’s Continental Classic tournament concluded with two matches in the Blue League on tonight’s (November 25) episode of Collision.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Daniel Garcia opened the show. Before the match, Garcia said in a promo that his confidence was at an all-time low given his recent losses. He sees that everyone thinks he’s just fodder to eat pins for the tournament’s top stars, and that makes him feel like a loser.

Unfortunately for Daniel, that feeling won’t go away as Claudio was too much for him and scored the pin with his Ricola Bomb.

The main event of the show pitted ROH World Champion and NJPW Strong Open Champion Eddie Kingston against Brody King. Eddie’s championship belts go to the winner of this tournament, so everything is on the line for him in the Continental Classic. But Brody proved too tough to shake that night. He withstood several spinning fists and still managed to defeat Eddie with Dante’s Inferno. Given Eddie’s status as a double champion, this result is considered the first upset of the tournament.

Here are the updated rankings for the Continental Classic:

Gold League

Jon Moxley (1-0-0): 3 points
Swerve Strickland (1-0-0): 3
