As Christmas approaches, the post office auctions off packages that have been lost during the year and not picked up. The opportunity to acquire very interesting properties, do good business and at the same time support an association.
Unreported moves, missing postage, wrong address… Every year many packages do not reach their destination. After six months, if they are not collected, they become the property of La Poste, which means they will not be destroyed.
And for ten years now, these packages that no one wants have been auctioned off every year just before the Christmas holidays as part of a charity event. The 2023 edition will take place on December 1st at the Nantes auction house at 24 rue du Marché Commun, but also live, online so everyone can participate! iPad Pro, collectible figures, confectioner robots… the range is as diverse as it is tempting! In addition, the proceeds from the sale of the 500 packages are donated to the Association of Families of Disabled Children (AFEH) – more than 100,000 euros are raised every year. Last year, almost 500 packages were sold at a price a third of the price displayed in the store. And the least we can say is that there will be something for everyone! After that, good offers are not necessarily guaranteed. Since the auctions also take place online, they actually attract many more participants, which tends to lead to a real increase in prices. Last year, this auction was actually marked by a significantly faster price increase compared to previous editions that only took place in person. As a result, some buyers paid as much, if not more, than if they had gone to the store without benefiting from the warranty. Yes, participants sometimes get a little too engrossed in the game and sometimes even go to the extent of spending more than they should in the hope of winning the prize.

Since destroying or throwing away unsold items has been banned since the Waste Protection Act, several delivery companies, in addition to La Poste, have also gotten into the habit of selling entire pallets of packages to specialized companies, which in turn sell them, at more or less reasonable prices – and we know not necessarily what we buy! But the same applies here: beware of fraud! On social networks such as Facebook, certain pages or groups advertise so-called lost packages from Amazon, which can be purchased for a few euros (see our article).
