Police in Chicago were called to the city’s Northwestern University after reports there was a gunman alive on campus.

According to a statement posted on the school’s website at 9:12 p.m., shots were reported outside the university’s Wieboldt Hall.

“An active threat event is occurring on the Chicago campus,” the university’s security department wrote.

“Run, hide, fight.” Take appropriate shelter.

“Lock and/or barricade doors.” Awaiting further information.’

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured. The authorities initially did not provide any further information about the situation.
