Dessert Masters winner Gareth Whitton reveals the truth about his bloody medical emergency in the cooking show’s grand finale

Gareth Whitton was crowned winner of Dessert Masters 2023 in an emotional grand finale episode on Tuesday night, but it didn’t all go smoothly.

There was a shocking moment during the two-course service challenge when Gareth cut his thumb while chopping rhubarb for his first dessert.

But Gareth has claimed the incident was not as it was portrayed on TV.

“On TV I was cutting rhubarb and next thing I knew I cut my hand and was bleeding. “But actually I unmoulded the intermediate dish of acacia seeds and chocolate mousse,” he told Yahoo Lifestyle.

Gareth said he was given a paring knife to cut the edge of the entremet and in the process he cut his thumb.

For his final dessert, the pastry chef received the highest score from judges Melissa Leong and Amaury Guichon, beating out fan favorites Jess Liemantara and Reynold Poernomo.

He explained that as a pastry chef, he was not used to using sharp knives and that the utensils in the Dessert Masters kitchen were all completely new.

Despite this mishap, the pastry chef received the highest score for his final dessert from judges Melissa Leong and Amaury Guichon, beating fan favorites Jess Liemantara and Reynold Poernomo.

“I never expected that I would be in the final…” he said after his victory.

“You know it’s unreal for me to come through in the end.”

However, Gareth’s win was not well received by all viewers, with many of them taking to social media to vent their frustration.

Reynold, who has been a fan favorite since his first appearance on the culinary scene, once again missed out on the top spot, causing a stir among his loyal followers.

“Boooo!” wrote one fan of the show on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Reynold was robbed, he dominated the entire competition and then lost to Gareth on two stock standard desserts,” another added.

“Oh no, Reynolds. “Still my favorite dessert chef in the world,” another added.

“Reynold has dominated every single challenge and somehow damn Gareth wins?” Dude doesn’t have even a fraction of Reynolds’ creativity and vision, but we think he’s a better dessert chef than Reynold. “This is a joke,” wrote a third.

“I think they just used Rey to gain influence.” “How sad,” another viewer remarked

Elsewhere, viewers also felt Jess got a raw deal.

“Jess got really crazy tonight. The French girl liked her dishes but gave her a 6 and 7 wtf,” another angry fan wrote.

Meanwhile, a fan found the entire episode disappointing.

“That’s why there should be a blind tasting at the finale.” “Frenchie was a lot tougher on Reynold than he was on anyone else… the white guy stepped up to the plate like it was a 12th grade home economics cooking class and somehow got 9s against Get dessert artist,” one person wrote.

“The whole episode felt so disappointing and unconventional, it changed the format of everything they had done before, not the presentation for Gareth but still the judging for Reynold and Jess.” “The scoring doesn’t really match up with them Comments agree,” wrote another.

However, there were viewers who had no drama.

“Reynold’s stans are the biggest crybabies and the most arrogant in all of MasterChef. “Like he’s not that great,” they wrote.

“The underdog wins!” I love it,” wrote one Gareth fan.

‘Fabulous! I really enjoyed seeing everything you did in Dessert Masters Gareth. “Congratulations,” another added.
