Mixed news on Eagles first injury report of 49ers week

Mixed news on Eagles’ first injury report of 49ers week – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Mixed news from the Eagles’ first injury report of the week.

Right tackle Lane Johnson was limited at practice on Wednesday, but tight end Dallas Goedert did not participate.

Because the Eagles held a walkthrough, the injury figures are estimates of what a player’s status would have been in a full practice.

Johnson missed the Bills’ game because of groin pain, which he began feeling Sunday morning. An MRI revealed no significant damage in the area where he underwent surgery after the Super Bowl.

Goedert missed the Chiefs and Bills games because of a fracture in his forearm that he suffered in the Cowboys game. He said in the locker room Wednesday that he feels like he’s close to returning — “I don’t feel injured, but the doctors say I still am” — but he’ll have to wait at least until Thursday to to try to train. The Eagles kept him off the IR, meaning they expect he will likely be able to play in the Cowboys game a week starting Sunday.

Defensive starters Fletcher Cox and Zach Cunningham, who both left Sunday’s game early, were both listed as non-participants on Wednesday. Cox is dealing with a groin injury of his own and Cunningham has a hamstring injury.

The Eagles aren’t particularly strong at off-ball linebacker, with only Nicholas Morrow and Christian Ellis currently healthy on the 53-man roster. Ben VanSumeren has been called up to the practice squad for the last three weeks – he played 30 special teams snaps on Sunday – but is not active on game days. Shaq Leonard visited the Eagles on Wednesday but has not yet signed anywhere. The Eagles have an open roster spot, most likely for either Leonard if he signs here or VanSumeren if he doesn’t sign.

With Cox out and Milton Williams inactive from the Chiefs game with a concussion, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter both played the best snap counts of their careers on Sunday. The good news is that although Cox hasn’t practiced, Davis is listed as limited with a hamstring injury and Williams was also limited due to a concussion, meaning he is in the final phase of the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Also listed as non-participants were tight end Grant Calcaterra (ankle) and safety Justin Evans (knee). Evans remains on the IR. The Eagles opened his practice window back on November 14th, so they only have until next Thursday to either activate him, return him to season-ending IR, or release him. Evans began the season as a starter but has not played since the game against the Rams.

Others listed as limited included AJ Brown (hamstring), Julio Jones (knee) and DeVonta Smith (knee), and D’Andre Swift (ankle).

A full practice is scheduled for the Eagles on Thursday.
