College Recruiting: Rouge et Or brings a big man to the offense

Two-time Bol d’Or champion, offensive lineman Samuel Cahill, will continue his career with the University of Laval’s Rouge et Or.

Despite interest from several teams, Cahill only visited Laval and the Université de Montréal Carabins. “I’ve been watching the Rouge et Or on TV since I was little and it’s the team I wanted to play for,” said the Limoilou Titans guard. When I started playing football at Collège Bourget, I was coached by former Rouge et Or players. [Maxime Bérubé et Steve Landry] and the team culture has been anchored in me for a long time. The first values I was taught were those of Laval.”

“I wanted to join a program with a winning culture and add the 6-foot, 250-pound guy. That’s why I visited Montreal to check my options, but in the end Laval was my place.”

Position coach and charm from Quebec

Two other factors also played a role. “I met Carl Brennan early in the recruiting process and really enjoyed our relationship,” Cahill said. “It’s an advantage to be led by one of the best offensive coaches in the country.”

Cahill came to Quebec three years ago after his career as a student at the Voltigeurs du Collège Bourget and is very pleased with his new living environment. “After three years here, I consider myself a Quebec man,” he said. I’m better off than in Vaudreuil-Dorion, where my parents live. “It is a factor that was also decisive.”

Integration first

How does he see his first steps into the university scene? “I will be seen on the offensive line, but in my first season I will focus on the guard position,” he said. My first goal is to integrate and contribute my sauce, my good mood and my commitment. I will do everything I can to get on the field as quickly as possible, but I am a team person and will do everything I can to help the group.

Before the Bol d’Or, Titans head coach Dave Parent praised Cahill’s qualities as a leader and unifier.

Cahill will begin college in the fall. “I like human contact, but I don’t know yet what course I will study. The school didn’t play a role in my decision as the courses I’m interested in are offered at all universities.”
