Two accused in a double murder attempt that allegedly occurred in broad daylight on Highway 40

A man and a woman were charged Thursday in connection with a suspected double attempted murder with firearms that occurred in broad daylight on Nov. 3 in Quebec. The suspect in this case is Sara Terzini, who pleaded guilty last Friday to assaulting a taxi driver.

Several charges appear to have been brought against 33-year-old Terzini and his co-defendant Tommy Trépanier.

Prosecutors brought two counts of attempted murder against her and two more counts of discharging a firearm, first at a location where she knew a person was staying and at the two victims.

Trépanier is also charged with two counts of carrying a prohibited firearm.

In broad daylight

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the attempted murder occurred in broad daylight on November 3rd. Around 2 p.m., an emergency call was received to 911 about shots fired at a car traveling on Highway 40 near Avenue Le Gendre in Quebec. The incident was not made public by police at this time.

“There were no injuries during the event,” specifies Béatrice Dorsainville, spokeswoman for the SQ.

According to initial findings from the investigation, there is a connection between the suspects and the victims. “At the moment we can only say that this is not a random attack,” explains Me Jean-Simon Larouche, the Crown prosecutor who brought the charges.

The latter refused to release the suspects, who will remain detained until the case is heard again in court next Monday.

Racist attack

Sara Terzini had already made headlines last Friday when she pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon for an attack in December 2022.

The woman attacked a taxi driver for no apparent reason, insulted him with several racial slurs and then hit his vehicle with a metal rod. When the driver got out of his car, Terzini attacked him with the object, injuring him.

The defendant claimed that she had no memory of the incident because she was drunk at the time of the crime.

The Crown wants to convince the court that this is a hate crime. Sara Terzini called the driver a “dirty Arab” before telling him she was a racist. “Get out of here,” the woman had insisted.

This other file must be returned to the court in March for comments on the judgment.

Convicted 4 days ago

Tommy Trépanier, 26, has a criminal history.

He was also sentenced to 90 days in prison on October 30, barely four days before the alleged attempted murder on a Friday, for fraud, identity theft and forgery, which he must serve over the weekend.

He also received a nine-month prison sentence in 2016 for robbery and carrying a weapon with dangerous intent.
