The holiday countdown has officially begun. Mariah Carey opened the celebrations on Wednesday evening, creating a festive Christmas atmosphere in the conquered Bell Center and, above all, was happy about being reunited with her idol after an absence of more than 13 years.
Giant snowflakes, giant candy canes, oversized Christmas trees, jingling bells, Santa Claus in the flesh… Mariah Carey clearly doesn’t do things by halves when trying to create a festive atmosphere. It was a feast for the eyes – and ears – of around 14,800 “lambs” who had gathered in the Bell Center and had been patiently waiting for the American singer’s return to the metropolis since February 2010.
However, these festive gatherings were at times marred by sound problems, with loud crackling coming from the speakers at the start of the evening.
One voice (and that’s it)
Let’s be honest: the American diva is not what you could call a stage beast. Her movements on stage are extremely limited; Mariah Carey prefers to waddle limply or pose on the boards rather than dance. And despite everything, she takes a break after just a few songs to freshen up her hair and make-up right on stage.
But she obviously makes up for this lack of energy – and charisma – with her phenomenal singing ability. The heights she reaches in each of the tracks reinterpreted on stage are impressive, as is her amazing mastery of her instrument, both in the bass and her ethereal pipes.
And that, after all, is why we travel to see Mariah Carey perform. We suspect that the singer’s admirers don’t hold her relaxed and distant manner against her. They were very happy to hear his songs “Christmas” (Baby Please Come Home), “Silent Night”, “Joy to the World” and of course “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which were reserved for the end of the concert.
Christmas… and the hits
Despite her best efforts to create a holiday atmosphere in the amphitheater, Mariah Carey insisted on deviating from the theme and dedicating a long medley consisting of essential elements of her repertoire. Always Be My Baby, Honey, Heartbreaker, Dreamlover, Emotions, Make It Happen and other We Belong Together provided variety to the evening’s program, with each of these titles being received with enthusiasm and enthusiasm by vocal admirers.
It is therefore Mariah Carey’s voice that we will remember much more from this Merry Christmas One and All! tour than the presence of the American Idol on stage. Fortunately, Mariah Carey is surrounded by an imposing, extremely sophisticated and sophisticated production that throws up enough noise and mirrors and elegantly envelops the singer’s voice.
