The first trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is here, revealing Anya-Taylor Joy as a younger version of Charlize Theron’s wasteland heroine, as well as familiar characters like Immortan Joe. Chris Hemsworth is also there, continuing the Mad Max tradition of using Australian actors, and he looks pretty fierce in his role as Dementus.
The new trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was revealed during CCXP, offering a first look at the anticipated sequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. It follows the journey of Furiosa, the heroine of Fury Road, and the The quest that led them to carry out their daring plot will be detailed and will reportedly be structured very differently than the previous film. George Miller returns to the director’s chair for the new film and co-wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris.
Here is the logline with additional plot details:
When the world ended, young Furiosa was kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and fell into the hands of a large biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. As they sweep through the wasteland, they come across the citadel ruled by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants battle for dominance, Furiosa must endure many trials as she marshals the means to find her way home.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – Official Trailer #1 Slideshow
Furiosa will seek to build on the world of Mad Max, which has been one of the quintessential post-apocalyptic franchises since its debut more than 30 years ago. Fury Road was celebrated at the time of its release for its amazing stunts and practical effects, prompting moviegoers and studios alike to reconsider the outsized role of CGI in action films.
We wrote about Fury Road at the time of release: “The over-the-top stunts and eccentric characters and designs are all hugely important to Fury Road, as are the troubled characters like Max himself and Furiosa, but it’s the overriding sense of uniqueness of the film, its ambition to be more than just another action film is extremely impressive. “Mad Max: Fury Road” is unique. Like the world he creates, he is beautifully brutal.”
Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa was unveiled in a gold statue at CCXP.
Details about Furiosa emerged in 2020, with Theron calling the decision to recast Furiosa “heartbreaking.” Taylor-Joy later said that she was “very excited” to take on the role and that she had “already dreamed about it.” Hemsworth, on the other hand, plays “completely against type” as the main villain in “Furiosa” and his intense performance can already be seen in the trailer.
In addition to the trailer, various items were on display at CCXP, including a gold statue of Taylor-Joy as Furiosa. It was part of a panel in which the cast and crew revealed more details about the prequel, which is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2024 after a delay.
