Even in heavy rain, fans fill the stadium for Paul McCartney’s concert

Not even the strong wind and storm that hit the central area of Brasília discouraged the audience preparing to see Sir Paul McCartney’s show on Thursday evening (November 30) at the BRB Mané Garrincha Arena. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) predicted cloudy skies and rain showers in isolated areas. However, as the night began, the public had a reprieve.

Fans from different parts of the country and even outside Brazil arrived at the stadium early, just before the heavy rain hit the region, to watch the artist’s second performance at the arena.

51yearold businessman André Anaisse traveled with his family from Belém (PA), where they live, to the federal capital to see another show by the English star. Accompanied by his wife Izabel Winker (26), his brother Alexandre Anaisse (44) and his sisterinlaw Jozana Anaisse (41), André said he had a childhood connection with the Liverpool band.

“My father had a band, was a singer and we grew up listening to the Beatles. As teenagers we got to know their work, watched videos, watched movies and saw a lot of cover bands. This is how the passion was born, which we still pass on to our children today,” said André.

Two fans eagerly waiting to enter the stadium were 30yearold psychologist Sofia Marquim and 29yearold film graduate Pedro Ivo Costa. The couple also had the privilege of being among the select audience who attended Paul’s intimate show “McCartney” at Clube do Choro, this Tuesday (November 28).

Now the two residents of Recife (PE) are preparing for another memorable moment in the presence of the exBeatle. “We were accelerated for two days. “This is the second one,” commented Pedro Ivo, who, like Sofia, is still wearing the bracelet from Paul’s surprise presentation.

The Got Back tour in Brazil begins with today’s show in Brasília. The series of shows planned in the country will reflect on the six decades of the 81yearold star’s musical career. O Metropolises is the media partner of the event.

In the set list of the presentation in the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha, the audience can expect hits such as “Hey Jude”, “Live and Let Die” and “Let It Be”, immortal classics from the time of the Beatles as well as songs from the band they founded, Wings Singer in the 1970s and the artist’s solo career.

Passages through Brasilia

Paul McCartney has been active with the Got Back tour since 2022 and has traveled to three continents. Before Brazil, he took the shows to the USA, Australia and Mexico.

This is the second time the Liverpool singer has performed in Brasília. He had previously only set foot in the federal capital in November 2014, when he also performed at Mané Garrincha on the Out There tour.

At that time, he stayed at the Setor Hoteleiro Sul and even went on a bike ride through the Parque da Cidade.

Bag show

This time Paul arrived in Brasília at the beginning of the week and stayed at the North Hotels and Tourism Sector (SHTN) on the edge of Lake Paranoá.

On Tuesday (November 28th), he greeted fans with unexpected news: a surprise show that evening for around 500 people in the traditional Clube do Choro, a space that is part of Brasília’s intangible heritage.

Tickets were sold for around R$200 to some of the spectators who bought tickets for the show this Thursday (30/11). They were informed by email and bought tickets almost immediately. However, some lucky people received free tickets at the door of Clube do Choro.

The pocket show lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes and transformed the venue into something similar to the English pubs where the Beatles performed in the 1960s. Another detail that made the experience an immersive moment for the selected participants was the fact that the audience was prohibited from using mobile phones during Sir Paul’s presentation.

Time schedule

The former Beatle will return to the stage in Brasília this Thursday evening (November 30th) at 8:30 p.m., along with musicians Paul “Wix” Wickens on keyboards; Brian Ray (bass/guitar); Rusty Anderson (guitar); and Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums).

After the federal capital, Paul McCartney will take the Got Back tour to four other Brazilian cities: Belo Horizonte on December 3rd and 4th; São Paulo (December 7, 9 and 10); Curitiba (December 13); and Rio de Janeiro (October 16), where he will conclude his visit to Brazil with a show at the Maracanã the same arena where he performed in 1991 in a show that set a record for an international artist in the stadium with 184 spectators and a thousand spectators .
