The song DJ plays a Christmas song allowed Cher to set a new record: she is the only artist to have at least one of her hits top the Billboard charts in seven consecutive decades. A feat that only the Rolling Stones have ever achieved.
Since topping the charts in 1965 with “I Got You Babe,” the singer has repeatedly renewed her subscription to success, first alongside Sonny Bono and then as a solo artist.
A total of 16 of the songs sung by Cher reached number one on the Billboard charts.
Examples? Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves, Dark Lady, If I Could Turn Back Time, Believe, Strong Enough, (This Is A) Song for the Lonely, You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me and Woman’s World have all been celebrated – and certified – from the popular American music magazine.
From satisfaction has Living in a ghost town
As for Mick Jagger and the gang, their number one streak began just a week before Cher; The Rolling Stones reached the top of the charts for the first time in 1965 with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”. They celebrated their last place at number one on the Billboard charts in spring 2020 with the song “Living in a Ghost Town”.
At the age of 77, Cher made a comeback to recording last October with the release of Christmas, a first-ever Christmas album consisting of covers and original songs. And proof that she’s not thinking about retiring, the singer recently confirmed that she’s working on both her memoir and a 28th career work.
In short, she continues to prove her success “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” right. Because no, we haven’t seen – or heard – the end of Cher yet.
