Ukraine claims sabotage of two trains in Russian Far East

The Ukrainian security services announced that they had carried out two sabotage operations on fuel trains in Buryatia in the Russian Far East, around 4,000 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. This is the first time this type of operation has been carried out from the front line so far.

The first attack occurred on the night of Wednesday to Thursday in the Bessolov tunnel in Severomouisk. The Ukrainians then targeted an alternative section of the railway line to which rail traffic had been redirected after the first attack. If this information from a source within Ukrainian law enforcement is accurate, these operations could seriously hinder trade with China.

The two sabotage operations allegedly carried out by Ukrainian security services could prove devastating for Russia. The majority of commercial exchanges with China and North Korea, as well as deliveries of military equipment, were carried out via this railway line, the only so-called serious railway connection, which included in particular the Bessolov Tunnel, the first target of this double sabotage operation.

Longest tunnel in Russia

This is the longest tunnel in Russia, the construction of which was very complicated due to the fact that it lies under permafrost. Several dozen workers died during construction. In photos posted on social networks, we can see a huge flame coming out of the tunnel entrance. These are wagons filled with fuel that would have exploded.

After this first operation, the security forces then set their sights on the alternative route. The damage would be significant even if the Russian authorities had not spoken out. But the Telegram Baza channel, which is close to the Russian security services, reported on Friday about “sabotage” that led to explosions on two trains “in the same area” of Buryatia, which would confirm the information from Kiev and could well slow down trade with Beijing and Pyongyang.
