Bruno Lagacé signs his first professional contract

Less than a week after winning the Canadian championship, Université de Montréal Carabins defenseman Bruno Lagacé signed with the Edmonton Elks.

“I met my agent after the Vanier Cup and he told me the Elks wanted to resolve the issue. I signed my contract on Wednesday,” Lagacé explained.

“Let’s just say it was a really great week!”

So it took Lagacé four days to go from university champion to professional footballer.

The Elks selected the Boucherville native in the seventh round of the 2023 draft, even though the athlete had told all CFL teams that he intended to play with the Blues last season.

“Last winter I made a program change. This meant I had to spend a little more time at school than expected. While we were doing that, it was an opportunity to come back with the Carabins for one final lap.”

It was Lagacé’s sixth year at UdeM, he benefited from another year of eligibility since the 2020 campaign was canceled due to COVID-19.

The Elks’ new representative took the opportunity to finish in style. Not only did he win the Vanier Cup, but he was also named to the First Team All-Canadian and RSEQ Defensive All-Star teams.
