Cher Reveals What It’s Like Dating Much Younger Boyfriend Alexander Edwards: ‘He Just Started Texting Me’

At 77, Cher knows a thing or two about navigating the dating world. But the legendary music star says she’s managed to avoid major bouts of heartbreak thanks to a secret despite having some of the most high-profile romances in celebrity history.

Appearing on an episode of Amelia Dimoldenberg’s YouTube interview series Chicken Shop Date, the Oscar winner revealed why she believes she’s avoided getting her heart broken so far.

“I’m cute,” Cher replied, smiling.

Cher was previously married to Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975, followed by Allman Brothers Band musician Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979. Although she has dated stars such as Tom Cruise and Richie Sambora in the past, Cher believes that she had been pretty lucky when it came to heartbreak.

“I haven’t had my heart broken often,” Cher explained. “Almost nobody.”

However, if she has any advice for women today, Cher has some wisdom: “Date a younger man,” she noted.

That’s exactly what Cher is doing as she is currently dating 37-year-old singer Alexander Edwards. The couple was first spotted holding hands together in November 2022, People reported.

“I went to Switzerland and he wrote to me: ‘Where are you going?’ “I said, ‘I’m going to Switzerland.’ ‘I’m a little tired,’ and then he texted me, ‘Good, rest, babyyy,’ with three Ys,” Cher told Dimoldenberg. “And I thought, ‘He doesn’t know me well enough to give the baby three Ys.’ I was kind of mad. And then he just started texting me.”

The singer went on to say that she advised her friends never to fall in love with a younger man because “we are too old. And don’t fall in love over text,” but in the end, she couldn’t resist. “There’s this theory.”

The podcast wasn’t the first time Cher reflected on how younger men tend to cope better with their strong self-confidence. Appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show last year, she said: “If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would never have dated because older men just didn’t like me that much. I had one.” A few friends who were around my age but for some reason just didn’t like me.

The “Believe” symbol reminded Clarkson that when it comes to dating, she “doesn’t give up my personality for anyone.” While she joked that her relationship with Edwards was “ridiculous” on paper, she added: “In real life… he’s fabulous.”
