Grayson Waller spent a lot of time targeting Kevin Owens’ hand during their match on Friday Night SmackDown this week. Of course, he still lost the match because KO won via roll-up, but now WWE has picked up on that and made it into this:
WWE doesn’t make a habit of announcing injuries, so it seems clear that this is simply continuing with the story of the match. However, the timing is extremely interesting. He has already been announced for the tournament for the top contender for the US Championship, but is not in the lineup for the first round of games next week. This is the same show where CM Punk will return to the blue brand.
Just a few days ago, Owens gave an interview and it sounded like he wasn’t thrilled about Punk’s return to the WWE.
The injury perspective gives him a good reason to miss the show, considering that an injury like the one announced can take up to six weeks to heal. It’s not guaranteed that he’ll actually miss the show or anything, but it’s obviously an option. And if he’s not there next week, speculation will certainly run rampant.
