Kirby Dach will miss the entire season with a right knee injury. The Canadian has now lost another important striker for a long time. Misfortune continues to befall this organization.
Alex Newhook is the victim of a left ankle sprain and will spend the next ten to twelve weeks on the sidelines.
Newhook was injured in the 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. He left the action for the first time in the first period, falling into an odd position against the tape. During the next period, he rammed his leg into the net while rushing toward Sergei Bobrovsky.
“You never want to lose a teammate for a long period of time. Newy has been playing very good ice hockey since he joined us. Losing him for so long is bad,” Sean Monahan said.
“We were hoping for better news,” Nick Suzuki said. That’s unfortunate because he’s been playing really well lately. This creates a big gap in our training. »
Acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in June, Newhook scored seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 23 games. He was the team’s top scorer along with Cole Caufield.
Kent Hughes gave up a first-round pick (31st) and a second-round pick (37th) in the 2023 draft to the Avalanche to sign the player from Newfoundland and Labrador.
“I don’t think we are shocked (by this news). You can never make a long-term plan. It’s a constant reassessment,” said Martin St-Louis, whose plan now is to reunite Caufield with Nick Suzuki and Sean Monahan in the first unit.
In Newhook’s absence, the CH recalled Mitchell Stephens from the Laval Rocket. The 26-year-old veteran collected 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists) with the Rockets.
