Chaos in the Lane Hutson game: a fire alarm and 103 penalty minutes

Those planning to watch a hockey game between Lane Hutson’s Boston University Terriers and the Merrimack Warriors in North Andover on Friday instead experienced a chaotic evening.

The J. Thom Lawler Rink, home of the Warriors, had to be evacuated late in the second half after the fire alarm went off. All players returned to the locker room and authorities were called, but it was apparently a false alarm.

College Hockey News reporter Mike McMahon described the bizarre scene on social media, saying both teams decided to play despite the loud alarm before changing their minds. Spectators were temporarily evacuated from the building.

After this spontaneous break, the second section ended quickly and the third section began after a two-minute break. Even Billy Joel’s famous song We Didn’t Start the Fire was played…

It must be said that even before all the fuss, this game had taken on a special look. Tensions flared several times in the second third, with four players receiving serious ten-minute penalties. In total, the referees issued 23 violations, which corresponds to a total penalty of 103 minutes. At some point even the door to the dungeon no longer closed because too many players took their places.

Hutson found a way to stand out in Boston University’s 4-1 win. The Montreal Canadiens young player received three assists.
