Gaza: Hundreds of targets hit by Israel, almost 240 dead

The Israeli army said on Saturday that it had attacked more than 400 targets in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire expired the previous day. According to the Hamas-led government, 240 people were killed.

A Hamas statement said 650 more people were injured in “hundreds of air strikes, artillery and naval bombardments across the Gaza Strip.”

Israeli forces “particularly targeted Khan Younes, where dozens of houses with their residents were destroyed,” he added.

In a statement on Saturday, the Israeli army wrote that it had “attacked” more than 50 targets in the Khan Younes region with its warplanes.

“IDF forces attacked Hamas terrorists and infrastructure in the Beit Lahia area using tank fire and launching airstrikes,” it added.

Artillery fire and airstrikes were also aimed at the “northern Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

In particular, “terrorist cells”, a “mosque used by Islamic Jihad as an operational command center” and a “weapons storage complex” were targeted, the Israeli army explained.

In addition, “infrastructure and equipment of the Hamas naval forces” were attacked in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Israel and Hamas blamed each other for the end of the ceasefire, which allowed the release of around a hundred hostages in exchange for those of 240 Palestinian prisoners and the acceleration of the arrival of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
