The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Tahin, held official talks on December 3 with the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is visiting the Arab country, the second stop of his tour of the Middle East.

“I had fruitful official discussions with His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, @TamimBinHamad. “We share the interest in deepening political-diplomatic relations and reiterate the desire to diversify and expand economic, trade and cooperation relations,” the Caribbean president wrote on his X account on the social network.

During the dialogue at the Lusail Palace in this capital, Díaz-Canel thanked Al-Tahin for the welcome, while underlining the importance of this visit for him and his delegation.

The Cuban head of state arrived in Doha the day before and, on the same digital platform, emphasized the fraternal welcome that he received. After completing an intensive work program here, he will complete his tour in Iran.

Cuba and Qatar established diplomatic relations on December 13, 1989 and their cooperation is evident both in the field of bilateral relations and in multilateral forums.

Before arriving in Qatar, the President paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) meeting in Dubai.

In this forum, he reiterated the island’s full support for the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of the genocide committed by Israeli occupation forces against civilian populations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

During COP28, Díaz-Canel held cordial meetings with the Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh; from Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali; from Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, as well as with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and his counterpart from Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
