Quebec businessman and patron Daniel Langlois and his wife Dominique Marchand were found lifeless on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean.
According to Dominica News Online, they are the occupants of a burnt vehicle found by police authorities near the town of Gallion. The article reported that the couple had been missing for several days. Three people are arrested by the police in connection with this case.
Mr. Langlois was born in 1957 and was involved in sustainable development projects for several years, including Coulibri Ridge, a self-sufficient hotel in Dominica that won several awards.
He is also the creator and founder of SOFTIMAGE, a company known for its 3D animation techniques. From 1986 to 1998 he was its president and technology director. In 1994 he sold his company to Microsoft.
Daniel Langlois received several awards throughout his life, including being named a Knight of the National Order of Quebec in 1999. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded him an Academy Award for Science and Technology in 1997.
The Daniel Langlois Foundation was founded in the same year. The private, non-profit and philanthropic organization’s goal is to “contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the arts and sciences by promoting their encounter in the field of technology,” according to its website.
