The tragedy occurred around 5 a.m. in a home in a Queens neighborhood. A panicked young woman called the police, claiming her cousin was killing relatives. The man, armed with a kitchen knife, is said to have attacked several members of his family.

According to CNN, 38-year-old Courtney Gordon killed a total of an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman and a man in his 30s. Another person, a 61-year-old woman, was seriously injured. She was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Police officers were attacked

When the police arrived at the scene, the attacker stormed towards them with a suitcase. He pulled out his knife and attacked a police officer, hitting him in the neck and chest. One of the police officers then shot the murderer. The latter died of his injuries during transport to the hospital. No decisive prognosis was given for the pathogens.

Before the attacker left the house, he set fire to the sofa in the living room, starting a fire. This prevented emergency services from immediately intervening.
