AGI – 11 hikers found dead after deathEruption of the Marapi volcano, it is most active on the island of Sumatra in western Indonesia. “Of the 26 people who were not evacuated, we have located 14, of whom three are alive and 11 are dead,” Abdul Malik, head of the Padang Search and Rescue Agency, said the day after the eruption.
Mount Marapi, with a peak of 2,891 meters, rose into the sky on Sunday Three thousand meter high ash tower. Last Saturday there were 75 hikers on the mountain. Of these, 49 fell into the valley, 3 were rescued by rescue workers, 12 are still missing and 11 were found dead.

Rudy Rinaldi, head of the West Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Agency, said some of the rescued hikers were receiving medical treatment. “Some suffered burns and were taken to hospital,” he added.
Marapi is in the second alert level of Indonesia’s four-tier system and authorities have imposed one three kilometer long exclusion zone around its crater. The Indonesian archipelago lies onPacific Ring of Fire, where the meeting of continental plates causes high levels of volcanic and seismic activity. The Southeast Asian country has almost 130 active volcanoes.
