Former Valencian government councilors Rebeca Torró and Arcadi España, currently spokesperson and deputy spokesperson of the Socialist faction in the Valencian Cortes, will join the Spanish government as Secretaries of State for Industry and Territorial Policy respectively, as announced by the SER and This newspaper has confirmed from socialist sources . The appointments are due to be made tomorrow, Tuesday, in the Council of Ministers.
The departure of Torró and Spain to the government chaired by Pedro Sánchez leaves the Socialist faction orphaned in the Cortes, as they are respectively the number one and second group in the autonomous parliament of Valencia. Both will soon submit their resignations as regional deputies, according to sources familiar with the process. Both Arcadi España and Rebeca Torró were important members of the government of socialist Ximo Puig in the last two terms.
Torró (Ontinyent, 42 years old), lawyer, was a territorial policy advisor and, before this appointment in 2022, a key figure in her responsibilities as regional economy minister in the negotiations with the German multinational Volkswagen for its implementation in Sagunto with an investment of 3,000 million euros. The future State Secretary for Industry also dealt with the acceleration of renewable energies and the promotion of public works from the territorial policy department.
The career of Arcadi España (Carcaixent, 48 years old) is practically linked to that of the leader of the Valencian Socialists and former president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig. He worked as a parliamentary adviser and was Puig’s cabinet director before becoming minister of territorial policy and later of the Ministry of Finance. After disappointment among Valencian socialists over the absence of Ximo Puig as minister in the new Sánchez government, the socialist leader has appointed his two closest aides. The former president of the Generalitat was one of those most likely to occupy the Ministry of Territorial Policy or Industry.
Other Valencian representatives in the government of Pedro Sánchez will include Ángel Contreras, previously General Director of Conservation and Maintenance of ADIF, who will become President of the company; and Rosa Obrer, who was director general of roads at the Botanical Government and would serve as director general in the Ministry of Transport, also as director of roads.
