It goes without saying that any movie featuring a giant monkey and a skyscraper-sized atomic lizard inherently requires its audience to collectively suspend their disbelief. However, there seems to be a limit to how much imagination some fans are willing to accept, and the latest trailer for Godzilla X Kong appears to have found that invisible limit in the Kaiju sprint.

Some argued that the rapid movements ruined the gigantic sense of scale and weighty movements that often accompanied both Godzilla and King Kong in their modern film appearances. Others simply said that the animation made the apex predators look silly.

These anti-jogging activists quickly found themselves at odds with fans of the classic Japanese live-action depictions of Godzilla, in which the scaly big boy uses all sorts of strange biological quirks to get from point A to point B.
Among the clips presented to angry fans was a scene from the 1973 film Godzilla vs. Megalon, in which the titular lizard performs a magnificent tailslide before delivering a devastating double kick to a pinned kaiju. Others pointed to 1971’s Godzilla vs. Hedorah, in which the legendary reptile flies backwards through the air using its atomic breath.

Earlier this month, we interviewed the upcoming film’s director, Adam Wingard, who returns to helm the sequel following the success of 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. During the interview, Wingard gave insight into the nature of the “evil Kong-like character” who will apparently serve as the main antagonist in the upcoming film.
“We wanted to create an antagonist that could take on both Kong and Godzilla, and that’s really difficult,” Wingard explained. “There’s a lot more to this character and he’s a threat, and it’s going to be fun to convey that.”
