Gil has been struggling with a number of health issues recently. Last May, he suffered a stroke that left the left side of his body paralyzed. He was diagnosed with prostate and bladder cancer in October.

The death was confirmed by his nephew William. According to the relative who recently cared for him, the funeral service will take place in Rio de Janeiro, with the date and location yet to be confirmed.

In a series of videos on Instagram Stories transcribed from the site, William was moved to tears and explained:

“Our beloved deceased has died. He died yesterday (3) at 10pm. But they managed to talk to us today. […] I’m here at the hospital doing the processing, but our Away has moved on to be with his Heavenly Father.

Everything I could do, I did. Everything you could do, through your collaboration, you did to help with his treatment, but he couldn’t handle it and died.

He leaves a legacy of joy, his humor was biting, it was heavy, but we had fun. […] I am devastated. I tried until the end.

I was the only nephew. There were eight nephews, but I was the only one, I saved him, we got back to work, we did good things again. We did shows, he even gave me the opportunity to fly on a plane. I’ve never been on an airplane. […] It was very sad and disappointing. God’s will is good, perfect, things take time, but we strive to make things work and sometimes as humans we cannot achieve perfect health. But our path was to live with our God.”

When the artist suffered a stroke, he was mobilized by the artist class. William even provided a link to a fundraiser to help his uncle recover. The campaign was promoted by the Hermes e Renato group, of which Gil was a member between 2002 and 2008.

After leaving Hermes and Renato, Gil Brother began producing online content in addition to appearing on television programs. He also appeared in the 2014 film “Copa de Elite”.
