Kelsey Grammer might be “completely happy” to discuss his support for Donald Trump, but according to BBC journalist Justin Webb, Paramount+ cut short its interview with the Frasier star shortly after discussing the topic.
Near the end of their interview — in which Grammer discussed Paramount’s Frasier reboot and, according to Deadline, expressed support for ousted ABC star and Trump supporter Roseanne Barr — Webb asked Grammer if he, too, still supported the former president.
“I do, and I’ll leave it at that,” Grammer replied.
However, in a clip from the show published by Mediaite, Webb claims that the conversation didn’t end quite so well.
“I have to say, Kelsey Grammer herself was perfectly happy to continue talking about it,” Webb said. “The PR people at Paramount+ were less than happy that he had spoken about it at length, so… they decided that we would have had plenty of time for our interview. But I want to emphasize that he was absolutely happy to talk about why he supports Donald Trump and will continue to do so in the upcoming election.”
Grammer, 68, has been vocal in his support for Trump in the past. In an interview with PBS in 2019, the actor insisted that his pro-Trump stance had no impact on his career.
“I don’t realize that I have to take a hit for this [it]”But now passions are certainly running high and he certainly expressed an extraordinarily passionate reaction,” Grammer told host Christiane Amanpour about the former president.
Discussing American politics more broadly, Grammer added: “I don’t think Washington has done us any favors over the last 50, 60 years – I think they’ve all been a bit of the same party, the same clowns, the same ones.” Bunch of really unpleasant people. And I don’t think they helped anyone but themselves.”
A representative for Paramount+ did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment on his BBC interview.
