Julia Roberts has opened up about her past relationship with ex Matthew Perry, a month after the actor’s heartbreaking death.
The 56-year-old actress opened up about her memories of the Friends star while promoting her new film Leave the World Behind.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said she thought “all the best” about the star, who died at his home in Los Angeles on October 28 at the age of 54.
The couple met when the Oscar winner was cast in a guest appearance on Friends in 1996.
In the episode titled “The One After the Super Bowl”, she played a childhood classmate of Chandler Bing.

The actress, who was seen accompanied by security in New York on Monday wearing blue, yellow and white checkered pants, a black turtleneck and a camel coat, enjoyed her brief stint on the hit sitcom. “They all welcomed me so warmly as kind of an individual and it was a really fun time,” she told the outlet.
“The sudden death of someone so young is heartbreaking,” she said.
“I think, you know, it just helps us all appreciate what we have and continue to move forward in a positive way as best we can.”
What fans of the series may not have known at the time is that Julia and Matthew had a three-month relationship.
The late actor wrote about this in his memoir “Friends, Love and the Terrible Big Thing.”
In the book, Matthew revealed that he was a romantic at heart and wowed the Pretty Woman actress even before they first met.
“I sent her three dozen red roses and the card said, ‘The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers,'” he wrote .
In the days before texting was common, the two used another written form of communication to exchange messages with each other.
The couple met when the Oscar winner was cast in a guest appearance on Friends in 1996. She played a childhood classmate of Chandler Bing in the episode titled “The One After the Super Bowl”.
In his memoir, the actor revealed that he sent her flowers to break the ice. “I sent her three dozen red roses and the card said, ‘The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers,'” he wrote
“Three or four times a day I would sit at my fax machine and watch the sheet of paper slowly reveal her next letter,” he explained.
“I was so excited that some nights I would find myself at a party having a flirtatious exchange with an attractive woman and cutting the conversation short so I could run home and see if a new fax had arrived.”
Looking back on the relationship, the comedian fondly recalled: “It was like she was put on this planet to make the world smile, and now especially me.” “I grinned like a 15-year-old on his first date .”

During an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, actress Mary Reilly confirmed their relationship.
However, Matthew’s insecurities affected their happiness.
“Two months later I was single,” he wrote.
“Dating Julia Roberts was too much for me.” I had always been sure she would break up with me. Why shouldn’t she do it? I wasn’t enough; I could never be enough; “I was broken, twisted, unlovable,” the beloved star wrote.
“Rather than face the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts,” he admitted.
Matthew said his insecurities led him to break up with Julia
“She might have been thinking about getting involved with a TV guy and now the TV guy was about to break up with her. “I can’t describe the look of confusion on her face.”
Julia’s latest film is permeated with an homage to “Friends”.
“It’s beautiful that he could be honored in this way, or that the show could happen to be honored in some way at this time,” said her co-star Mahershala Ali.
“It’s kind of nice that there’s a little bit of space in there.”
