Shohei Ohtani: A big move from a Quebec CEO?

Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos is reportedly trying to convince Shohei Ohtani to join the Atlanta team.

As MLB Network reported on Monday, the Georgia team is one of the clubs still in the running for the free agent who excels at both bat and on the mound.

Other teams still in the running include the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays.

ESPN reported last week that the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Texas Rangers had dropped out of the running to become the youngest recipient of the American League MVP award.

Back to the Braves: A potential Ohtani signing would scare many teams. The Atlanta club ranked first in Major League Baseball in runs scored, home runs, slugging percentage and wins above replacement in 2023. The organization counts on star players like Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson and Austin Riley.

Ohtani is currently a free agent after spending the last six seasons with the Angels. Last year he batted .304 and had 151 hits, including 44 home runs, in 497 plate appearances. He also compiled a 10-5 record and a 3.14 ERA on the mound.
